    New brakes... Empty New brakes...

New brake discs and pads arrived Thursday.

Set of front 2 piece grooved brake disks / ally bells off Godspeed. Over 2kg ligher than std disks apparently.
And the EBC Bluestuff NDX ( track / race pad? ) which are meant to have great cold bite and good anti fade on hard use.

    May get pics up.

Fit them tomorrow, too cold and wet today!

New brakes... Empty New 2 piece discs fited with Bluestuff NDX pads.

Post  vulnax Tue Feb 22, 2011 12:19 pm

Fitted the new 2 piece discs - alloy bells bolted to steel discs.

    No problem.

Fitted the Bluestuff NDX pads - bit of a tight fit as they have an anti rattle pad on the back, then Subaru fit 2 metal shims to the back of the pad, but finally got the pistons back into the caliper ( Easy way - crack the bleed nipple using 1mm spanner and fit hose to bleed nipple from a non return one man bleed kit to a bottle! And push with end of spanner while wedging the other pistons ).

Quick run around the block, and after 3 or 4 presses the brakes were quite reasonable, and after 5 miles not at all bad.
The instructions say bed the NDX in for 300 miles normal driving, then do 5-6 hard stops with cooling time between stops with normal driving and they are set.

Had a few pics of the discs / pads, before and after, but the camera went wonky I think - gave me 4 copies of each pic and when I deleted 3 of each the remaining poic was of something else!

    So no pics. Shame.

    New brakes... Empty NDX update

Post  vulnax Wed Feb 23, 2011 12:05 pm

These EBC Bluestuff NDX pads are quite good so far.

Done about 60 miles on them, 10 miles in town, 40 miles dual carriage ways.

Cold bite is good, better than the OEM Brembo pads I think, and when a little warm gets even better.

Bedding in instructions say to do this for 300 miles then 5 ish hard stops and then they are conditioned, de-gassed and bedded in.

So will test them on hard braking in a week or two and let you know.

I had Ian G's brakes on my Classic about 9 years ago. Good value for money product and a great chap to deal with. cheers
Being lazy, I drove to Wales and he fitted them. Laughing
