    Budget tyre?

Heard of them, not tried them. I have used Falken 452 on the classic and my mate used Kumho which he liked.

Shouldn't you be using 245/40x18? Sure mine are that size?

Hmmm no ZR or Z .. but Y rated .. EEEEKK!

Those vredstein seem to have good comments on here .. but £130 a corner.

For the life of me ..... Why would you want crappy tyres on your 'high performance car' ?

With a £ 20k + car PLEASE spend some money on some decent tyres Dr Jim...

Pirellis, Continentals, Bridgestones, Dunlops, BUT not some Cheech an' Chong specials ! afro

Guys, i have no problem in spending cash on well known brands, but saw these and thought I ask if Anyones used them.

I have used falkens before and got good milage and grip on my 04 sti, so don't just discount budget tyres as I would prefer these over the currently fitted dunlops!

What speed rating is a y good for as I don't know to much about tyres?

I was led to believe federal was a well known....

One thing for sure I won't be replacing with another set of dunlops !

I've just fitted a full set if Vreds to mine and so far so good, not had a real chance to push them yet due to the weather but am impressed so far.

They receive rave reviews all over the net and on black circle etc score better than most known brands, iirc there was only two tyres that scored higher and were circa £200 each. At £130 a corner they could not be dismissed!

Anyone tried these Empty Tyre speed ratings

Post  vulnax Wed Mar 09, 2011 11:07 am

I have a friend who can tell me these things, his name is Mr. Google !!!
Here's the ratings vs speed from Blackcircles.

    Speed Rating Mile/Hour Kilometers/Hour Speed Rating Miles/Hour Kilometers/Hour
    N 87 140 U 124 200
    P 93 150 H 130 210
    Q 99 160 V 149 240
    R 106 170 Z 150+ 240+
    S 112 180 W 168 270
    T 118 190 Y 186 300

So as our cars are limited to 155 mph we need a tyre capable of doing over 150 mph safely.

I normally have Z but seems Y are higher speed rated.

    Dunno,

Try any local specialist / high performance tyre places, try MyTyres, Blackcircles ( online delivery places ) and just search!

I tried the SS595s on my old Legacy GT. I think they would be ok on a lighter car but for me they were too soft and although they felt grippy actually lost ultimate grip because they were easily overloaded. Very progressive though and good fun hooning about on an airfield day.

Currently running Vred Sessantas - good tyre but very noisey on a coarse surface (which is all roads in Scotland). Preferred the older Vred UltraC.
