New wheels

Post  R20GRM on Sun Apr 17, 2011 12:58 pm

Thinking of changing the wheels on my hatch, currently got speedline's on just now but they dont't seem to fill the arch much. Not sure what ET they are? Going to stick with 18's, seen an ultralite wheel i quite like, 8.5 either in ET35 or ET48, What do you think would fit best, It's lowered on tein springs & 235/40/18 tyres which i'm planning on just swapping over.

Cheers Graham

ET35 is what you want, my speedlines are 8.5 ET35 and sit perfectly in the arches front and rear sitting on Prodrive springs. Only thing to watch for with a lower ET is the rear doors are a bit more prone to stone chips if your flaps are not too big or if you dont have flaps at all.

Cheers for the reply Abz! Thats the look i'm hoping for, your car looks much wider a stance than mine!
What size of tyres are you running on your wheels?

The tyres in the pic are the OE Dunlops 245 40 18's, they had quite a square profile and looked well in the arch, now replaced with a set of Vreds in the same size, side profile is not quite so square though but still look good.

If I was you I'd just up the width to a 245 when you need to replace the rubber and combined with teh ET35 will look good.

I just get a slight rub on mine in one particular corner that I go round but its so slight I'm not worried.

I'm in two minds whether to go with the 35's or play it safe & go with the 48's?? Hmmmmmmm Question
The roads up here in scotland are quite bad & if i end up putting coilovers on it & have it sitting even lower might be a problem! Could always get some spacers to add to the 48's?

Looked into the spacers myslef and was not convinced on their safty, especially as my daughter would be in the car, also I know ScoobyL had some on his and had a few issues with the fitting of them due to different recesses in the rear face of the wheel.

Depends how low you want to go, I'd imagine you can set it up low enough on coilovers with a hard setting so it would not rub, or you could roll the arch? The rubbing on mine is so rare that its fine for me but then our roads are pretty good!
