Wing Vents - do they do anything?

Post  vulnax on Tue Mar 02, 2010 11:04 am

Do the vents in the wings actually do anything?
Are they even open to allow air through ( to cool brakes or reduce frontal wind resistance ? )

Aero aid is what I would have expected...

Poked at the vents and didn't seem to go anywhere, hence the question!

Was going to ask if there was a benefit in making these vents work!

Obviously if they work fine, if blanked off then some benefit in opening them up??

I would expect a reduction in air pressure build up in the engine bay or inner front wing areas if there were inlets and exits to these "vents".

So should lower frontal resistance and reduce the Cd / drag coefficient?

Laterly I noticed that the lower side bumper vents DID allow light through so assume these already do some part of this airflow improvement... just not at all sure of the front wing extension vents doing anything with the wheel arch air...

bumper and wing vents are to vent the air out from the engine bay area to reduce the lift drag the air causes, also to aid in the cooling by exiting the hot air quicker

there is a thread on iwsti.com where some1 has cut the tiny holes behind the vent bigger and removed the rubber strip thats on the back of the vent itself!!!
