Hi Midichlorian
That's the right of any manufacturer i guess but I would be pushing for an independant inspection as a cat-back exhaust cannot cause a piston ring failure as far as I'm aware. That's why block exemption rules exist, as long as you can prove that the parts fitted were as good or better as original specification you should have a valid warranty.
For the record, Scorpion make all of Prodrives exhausts inc hi-flow cats etc right here in the uk. I've seen them being made when we had our project TT down there getting a system fitted.
They cannot just say its "non-original" therefore no warranty - what about customers of ours who've opted for a Scorpion system?, surely they must be covered.
I.M. may say no but not sure how they would stand if it went to Court.
I think you have to make a decision when you start to modify - do you want to keep your warranty or maybe risk losing it.
If I was running a new model and replacing exhaust, filter etc it would be safer to get it mapped or have the fueling checked by the likes of Andy F etc with Ecutek who'm I presume still design the UK PPP maps.
Some people return there vehicles to std set up if they have a problem before they or its taken back to the dealers to avoid any arguments.
Sales are steadily growing with our exhausts especially through Europe and I think you pays your money and takes your choice but we would never design anything that would damage an engine. I understand a manufacturers point also as they want all the business and are protecting there own market.
Can never understand why PPP cars have an exhaust that is too short for the body as the pipes dont even sit correctly - guess they are worried incase someone burns there leg on them....again its a choice for each individual to decide.
We've got a brand new Audi R8 V10 in on Monday getting a full Milltek system fitted - he knows the risk he could take with the dealers should there be a warranty but again if he had a ring failure could they blame his Milltek exhaust?
I hope that he can get it sorted out without paying Subaru and not pushed into paying up asap to get his car back.
There are too many great exhausts companies out there who wouldnt dare take short cuts to risk their reputations or an engine.
Milltek, Scorpion, Piper, H & Scott, Remus who all do OE work.
Jetex - who've made ours since 1997 with no known engine failures have very stringent guidelines before letting us put our product to market.
Cannot speak for powerflow, lifelong etc but I've heard that it all comes from China and made on site as per vehicle.
Sorry for the long answer but hope it explains a little from an aftermarket point of view.
Glenn
