CS400 waist spoiler? Empty CS400 waist spoiler?

Post  vulnax Thu Nov 25, 2010 12:30 pm

Is anyone doing these below rear window spoilers a la Cossie hatch, apart from the dealer.

Mark - I recall you bought one from the dealers, any info, and did they paint it for you before you stuck it on? Cost??

    Any progress on CF ones?

    Cheers

Costings for the CF ones should be available in the next 2 - 3 weeks.

They will be a direct copy of the OEM 1.

Spoiler was delivered to CF gu on Sat. costings to follow.

Yes, they should be paintable (awaiting confirmation) and he thinks he should be able to make them light enough just to be bonded on so no need for drilling holes in the boot.

Interestingly, I was looking for an up to date STi accessory catalogue on line ( failed! ) but found a sort of on-line Subaru parts selector... it had the rear hatch spoiler on it at around £190 plus painting, fitting, VAT etc.

It also said it needed the uprated boot hydraulic struts ... I assume as the boot lid will weigh more and with the leverage from where the spoiler sits.....

    Any thoughts?

Righto, bad news I'm afriad guys.

He came back to me today and its going to be £350 each.

Also said that the corners will pose him a slight problem and he might not be able to get the CF to lay flat, which would mean he would need to use a filler compound which you would see. Yes they can be painted, which I think is naff all use for Mark's plans.

Also he could make them with a kevlar block so you could put self tappers through the boot lid if you wanted to drill holes to make it that bit more secure.

CS400 waist spoiler? Empty Not there yet - fitting XS400 spoiler

Post  vulnax Sat Feb 12, 2011 10:58 am

Body shop were going to paint and fit the rear below window CS400 spoiler.

Not sure what price I expected ( since Subaru reckon 1/2 hour labour to fit ) but was surprised at the cost ... over £215 plus the good old VAT to paint and fit. ( more than the spoiler cost! ).
Reckoned the paint alone was over £50 !!

So gone to a smaller local body / paint shop who I used on my classic, and job done for £60.

I'll post up pics if I remember!

    nice 1

i contact them and got this:

    Dear rb5_286,

    When
we use USPS to ship Internationally, we can declare ANY value we want,
and mark as anything we want, we have full control, the only thing is,
we don't want our customers to have customs issue, like the customs
doesn't want to release the parcel and get you in trouble and all that.
    As
long as you don't mind, we can declare as low as $19.99 and mark as
gift. Or a higher value and mark as gift of whatever you prefer, say
    $29.99 and mark as merchandise.
By default we mark as gift anyway to
everywhere except the following countries who are known to have customs
issue if we declare low value and mark as gift:
    UK/Canada/Germany/Russia/France.

Please do not tell us what value
to put and mark as what here, you need to notify us "add note to
seller" at ebay/paypal checkout, and put what value you want there, so
when we print out the paypal transaction we see it, especially when
replying ebay messages and printing out paypal transaction are handled
by different person in our company.

Thanks, we look forward to do business with you.

Indeed... paint the thru hole and let dry, and I put a half ring of silicone over the hole so any rain runs around it... worked on the STi lower wing on my classic wagon!

It'll get done on Saturday all being well, rain etc.!!!

    LOL Sad

The instructions for fitting are very precise ... even down to don't fit in under 20 C temperatures! So about 3 days a year then!

I'll see what the weather does, and may get the boot ready for fitting, trim out, holes marked up maybe drilled...

In the meantime I could fit the ball joint adjustable drop links and 2 piece front brakes and pads!

    CS400 waist spoiler? Empty It's on !!!!

Post  vulnax Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:05 am

    Right.

Fitted the cosworth rear waist spolier ( a la CS400 ) that I got off here a few weeks ago. Cool sunny

It was painted in dark gray metallic ( the car colour, obviously ! ) at a local bodyshop and was pretty damn good, for £60.

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0002

    So out with the instructions.

I took photos so will add them later.

Clean the panel below the window, really should have washed the car first but it's cold and didn't want the adhsive to not stick. Instructions say fit when temp is over 20C .. so not likely in UK then!

Degreased panel with meths ... hmm not sure the paint liked it too much!

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0001

The spoiler is held on with 3M adhesive tape at top and botton edges and ends, and 4 studs that need driling in the panel! affraid

So off with the inner boot plastic trim, and found the rear light lenses needed to come off to tighten the studs.

Cut themplate to size and affix to car with the right 1mm margin at the ends and over the Subaru badge on he rear hatch.

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0003

DRILL!!!! 2 holes were 10 mm at the ends, 2 were 7mm in the middle... I found out why when offering up the spoiler - as the hatch lid is curved in 2 dimensions, fitting the end stud in made the others be 1/2 inch out... so had to offer up all 4 studs at once and the extra size of the end holes allowed this!

Fitted first go when I realised this!!

I painted through the drilled holes, and put a ring of silicone sealant above them to divert water past the holes ... actually the spoiler has a central drain hole and channel to take rear screen water off and avoid the studs / holes.

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0004
    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0005

Peel off the 3M tape cover, add a blod of silicone to the base of the studs to aid waterproofing, and fit!

Good job I had an 8 mm fine ratchet spanner as there is no direct route for a socket and sod all room for a soanner to tighten the studs / nuts.

All done, and site correctly and looks balanced !

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0006

    CS400 waist spoiler? IMG_0007

Another good job done, took about 1 1/2 hours including letting the silicone and paint dry.
