Has anyone changed the fuel injectors ?

They look buried and hard to get at!

Thanks - I'll check the manual!

    yep Me on several occasions.

you need the intake manifold off the car as the guard bolts are hidden behind the tgv motors & oil supply pipes for the avcs

    Changing Injectors Empty Doh!

Post  vulnax Sun Apr 24, 2011 1:12 pm

Cheers Rob, I had hoped to pull off the shields and move the hoses ( as on a classic! ) but don't fancy doing a manifold off job!
Looks like a garage job then...

Yep Paul, since I was running at 93% injector duty on AndyF map I got these ECUTek 800CC/min injectors... but not that easy to fit it seems!

Perrin 3 port will go on, and off a re-remapping we go ..

Hopefully we'll get a date shortly as the plugs and pump will be in this week and the 3-port and AEM CAIK will go on just before. I've been looking at the Perrin inlet pipe and they claim a drop of 250 rpm on spool up so that could suck me in before the map.

The Perrin inlet pipe looks good, but may be a pig to fit - Scoobyclinic said they would recommend fitting one when changing the turbo etc.

Most of the forged / big builds I've seen on here have this inlet pipe.

Best I've seen for the inlet is £265 in the UK but there's a seller on e-bay that do them for £160 with express shipping, dependent on exchange. They do multi shipping rate that take it down to £149 for 2.

The video says about 40 mins to fit, just removing the intercooler. If you have to take your manifold off for the injectors it'll be easy for them to change at the same time.

    Changing Injectors Empty feature creep....

Post  vulnax Mon Apr 25, 2011 2:49 pm

LOL, I suppose I'd want one, they do flow better - I think they are wider diameter than std., Make sure they have the end fitting to fit the AEM CAIK.

If you're going for one on import I'll go with you and have one too!

If you get any fitting instructions that would help

    Cheers

Fail to see how the hardpipe will take 40 mins to fit some how Rolling Eyes

the fuelpipes are bolted around the intake pipe so the only way to remove and refit is to unbolt them and pull the pipe out, but to get at the bolts the manifold has to come off. I can remove and refit a manifold in 1hr flat, it looks worse than it actually is.

    remove intercooler
    Remove airbox assy
wiring removed from avcs solonoids and sensors under engine
    unplug the coil packs
Unplug the inlet avcs solonoids and sensors on top of engine
unplug the knock sensor and secondary airpump solonoids.
remove alternator and unplug water temp sensor/crank position/oil pressure wiring along with powersteering pump wire.
drain cooling system and remove header tank.
disconnect fuel pipes/ disconnect water hoses on throttle body. remove vac line for brake servo.
Undo hose clip on turbo inlet pipe, best practise is to remove the hex key from the front of the hardpipe on the intake and pull off the turbo
dissconnect the breather pipes ate the rear of the block
undo the 4 bolts on each side and lift off

should be like this when removed
    Changing Injectors 180678_10150421384510157_886605156_17409128_2375271_n

then if you decide to strip it out then it will end up like this

The video they show says 37 mins but when you read the fitting instructions that's with destroying the original pipe so manifold removal is not required.

I just love these "simple" jobs that get tricky!!

May have to pop up to Cumbria and see Rob do his stuff !!

    Remove manifold,
    Fit Inlet pipe
    Fit injectors
    Fit catch can
    Replace manifold.

Should only be a couple of hours!!!

Only problem is ECUTeK tell me the ECU settings need updating ( simple scale setting and delay ) to suit the 800CC injectors before starting engine! So looks like a garage associated with a mapper / ECUTeK need to fit injectors.

you can run with the 800cc fitted prior to mapping, allthough will run in a richer state than before, just keep it off boost & the afr sensor does a pretty good job of trying to trim the fueling back to sensible limits.
