    What are the opinions on insufficient cooling being a contributing factor to the all too frequent engine failures on the hatch STi?

    The GrpN cars ditch the stock 08+ rad in favour of the 06/07 hawkeye STi rad and looking at the specs I can see why. Although the core surface area is virtually identical for both, the hawk STi core is nearly 70% thicker - 27mm vs 16mm.

    Thoughts?

    In theory, yes it should, all other parts are the same bar the GrpN push button quick pressure release rad cap.

    However, don't rush out and buy a UK STi rad just yet!

    There're still a couple of issues which I need to address before I can give a definitive answer.

    Updates as and when they happen - either myself or Rob, who's now onboard with this.

    Has anybody with an oil temp gauge and engine failure seen high temps? I have logged coolant temp with DeltaDash on a few runs and all seems normal (standard ecu map, first engine on 20K), so unless oil temps have been an issue i wouldn't say that it contributes to the engine failures??

    With the Grp N cars using the older rad, comparing what's needed in a motorsport application to a pure road car most of the time isn't relevant.... be interesting to see what changing the rad does to logged water and oil temps tho.
