Tumble generator valves Empty Tumble generator valves

Post  vulnax Tue Feb 26, 2013 1:53 pm

    Anyone ( Rob !! ),

Whats the view on removing the tumble generator valves? Good idea for village / traffic driven car? Any downsides? OK allows slightly more air in and avoids failures.

During my build, engine builder removed them ( I wasn't aware ! ) so I am now TGV free.

The TGV provide easier better starting, better off boost emissions and more low down torque.
BUT they can stick or motors fail ( reason why builder removes them ).

I have bit rough 1000 - 3000 rpm drive, and poorer cold starting, bad warm / hot starting ( about an hour after stopping car - 3-4 hours, and under 1/2 hour is still OK ) which I attribute to the removal of the TGVs. Probably torque lower, pulls less well than previously ( although now on SC46 bigger turbo ).

    Thoughts?

Cost to buy / fit new TGV set up?

    Thanks

    Rob

never really had a tgv failure on a newage.

they cost a fortune to repair/replace. they do allow better airflow through without them.

if your experiencing starting issues that doesnt sound like a tgv problem sound more like lack of initial fuel pressure.

hows your swirlpot wired into the ecu ??

Looks like powered direct off battery via fuse link to Bosch 044, not sure how ECU controls the pump/what other wiring - load based or always on

( Isn't it usual to have in tank pump always on as lift pump and ECU control the Bosch > )

    I'll ask!

ask the question and see how it's powered up mate, could be the intial issue with getting fuel pressure to the rail

Power hard wired to Bosch and is wired via a relay to the in tank pump operation so won't run continuously.

I assume as in tank pump runs at variable rates under differnt loads so will the bosch, or at least when in tank pump off so is bosch?

Internet seems to usually say it's a cam, crank position sensor failure, or lack of sync in position between the two sensors, or hot fuel boiling in fuel feed system - pipes or fuel rails ( these are Perrin on parallel feed ) or even temp sensor.

I can only find reference to 1 coolant temp esnsor in the workshop manual ( there were 2 on the classics ? ) - does this one do both gauge AND ecu feeds?
