Basically subaru arnt going to admit there is a problem with the engines, they are now looking for every avenue to get out of paying for warrenty on the engine, even an aftermarket panel filter of all things lol

But Rob - is that the factory requesting all that information then, or I.M?

The factory as far as i am aware, are asking for all the info. but it has to be passed through I.M

But why don't they just fixed the fecking problem in the first place.
I'd love to know what they've done with the new engines

They mention a countermeasure, this may possibly be the different map for 09MY vehicles.

You see - A local N.Ireland lad had his 08 car go bang about a month or so ago.
It had been reflashed and also he bought the PPP about a year ago.

Dealer I believe said to him that they were told that the pistons had been redesigned in the new engines?

Could be horsesh1t of course.

hi folks new to the site. only had the STI just under a month, and the motors done 28k now (08 plate). am i right in thinking that this engine could still blow? i dont push it hard very often, usually stay well clear of the red line, and never push on a cold engine.

is there any way to spot a blow before it happens?

am i right in thinking if i replaced the pistons with forged ones then that would solve the issue yes? if that is the case where and how much we looking at to safeguard the engine?

Can't answer your question really

Will decent pistons stop it blowing - very much so.

How much - depends on how much you want to spend I suppose.
Couple of guys on here having non franchised rebuilds done.
One guy in particular done it him self - but he's experienced with this.
Others being done by Engine Tuner - look in the journals section

Forged Pistons will stop the problem, only draw back is they are slightly noisier than oem. but its a small price to pay for peace of mind

For parts roughly around £1600 & around 16 hrs this includes taking the engine out and refitting & cleaning everything up and refitting.

Interseting to read the bulletins.

Subaru have clearly taken the decision to body swerve this issue wherever they possibly can. In fact they are demonstrating more moves than the Russian chess champion.

If i didn't like the car so much i would be driving an Audi by now.I think the forged pistons are going to have to be considered further
