97 Ron Fuel??

What's the deal with 97 Ron?

Sometimes i go to appointments in the sticks, if i was to use 97, would it be bad for the car? I haven't yet but am wondering just in case of emergencies.

Inside the fuel cap it states 98ron so i would stick with that, if you have to put 97 in only put in enough to get you to the next station and stay off boost.

That's what i was thinking but i thought i would double check as sometimes the fuel stations nearby only do 97 etc. Thanks for that matey.

you could also carry some octane booster to add to tank if u do but 97ron in,

if u do put 97ron or less in as abz says just but in enuff to get to nx garage that has good stuff & keep off boost

ive only got options for 95 or 97 near me, and not had any issues, i always run 97 aswel. didnt think 98 was available in the uk, just 95, 97 or 99?

I only ever put super unleaded in mine and the 4 other Subaru's I've owned - always been OK

Plus - thats the best we have over here in N.Ireland unfortunately

I saw 98 behind the fuel cap so thought i best check. I've seen 97, 98 and 99 near me i think.

I will stick to 98/99 but at least i know 97 wouldn't do any harm in emergencies.

i used to use sainsbury's 97ron until the engine went bang

since then i have used Shell vpower and noticed that there is no pinking, I had to fill up with tesco 99 ron in the I.O.w as there isnt a shell in the island!!!!

V-power is good, ESSO high octane I found OK, BP stuff is poo I found...( that's before they put sea water in it ! )

These beasties need good quality, high octane fuel, 98 IS a minimum, 99 or Vpower etc. is better to avoid Det and engine probs, depending on how hard you thrash it.

My Mapper, a certain Mr. A Forrest, reckons that on a hatch tweaked to over 360 bhp then a batch of dodgy fuel will blow the pistons at the first signs of Det .... this from a mapper who likes / excells at getting the best out of modded engines ... ( as I know from my previous classic 386 bhp / 360+ lbft @ 11 second 1/4 mile wagon! mapped by Andy! ).


I was asking for as much as possible power / torque but now will settle for mapping the sports cat exhaust and AEM CAIK safely to around 360 bhp!
