    Guys,

    Have many of you had a 1K service carried out?
    I know its not "required" anymore, but it just doesn't seem right that my 330S first service is 10K?

    What do you all think

    Cheers,
    Shaun

    Not required for warranty but nevertheless I got it done (prosport Stockport). Just an oil change.

    You could do an oil change yourself for around £60, it would give you peace of mind.

    Anyone like a neighbour or friend help you? Very very easy for someone with a little experience. Ask your dealer to be kind to you, tell him he will be getting all your service work and ask if he can do you a special price.
    You don't ask..............!

    Lads - talked to my dealer this morning.

    They'll do the 1000 miles service for me no problem if I want and only charge materials.
    He says about £50 quid

    Getting my 330S oil changed tomorrow, at 4500 miles. Meant to do it earlier but been injured!

    I really don't like the idea of a new engine running in and then running, possibly hard, with all the bits of swarf in the oil for 10,000 miles! Magnetic oil plug is no use for aluminium swarf!!!!

    Seems they ues Shell Helix Ultra??? Service manager was not sure ...

    Hopefully this weekend I will take delivery of my new STi, at last!

    At the 1000 mile mark I want to get the engine oil and filter changed

    Considering the the change myself, will I need to remove any under car shielding to get at the sump plug?, do I need a new sump plug or washer? What oil would others recommend. Obviously I will use a genuine Subaru filter.

    Thanks

    Post  vulnax Mon Jul 05, 2010 11:28 am

    Not done it myself but :

    I think the engine under shield needs to come off;

    The sump plug is reusable although it is often recommended to replace the washer to avoid drips;

    Shell Helix ( ultra ? ) of normal viscosity ( 20-50 ?? ) is used by Subaru. Avoid fully synthetic oil for a few thousand miles to let the engine run in fully.

    Subaru oil filter.

    For the warranty you need to use the same ( or approved equivalent ?? ) parts to Subaru.

    Was about to ask about oil change frequency, I am not to happy about running 10 miles intervals on the same oil.

    20-50 Shocked thats quite thick

    you are keen, 10 miles to an oil change Wink

    Might have been 10/40 ... the dealer did say avoid the thin rated oils though ( 0-30 types I think )

    Otherwise Subaru say annual / 10,000 miles.

    I had mine changed after around 4000 miles, and would expect to do it around 5000 miles thereafter to be safe.

    Am I OK to got straight to fully synthetic at the 1000 mile oil change or keep semi in it for a few more miles?

    Personally, I'd use a good semi synth for the next couple of thousand miles and then go good fully synth ( high ester ones are best! ) like Motul 300V if you are happy paying near £50 a change on oil!

    Wont do it any hurt at all, mines on 30,000 now and has been on 15w50 since 1000 miles.
