Warranty work ... wheel bearings

My 330S is in for warranty work tonight, wheel bearings shot after 4500 miles!

Lots of noise when driving or freewheeling between 20 - 50+, and got worse when turning, mainly to the right ( loading left wheel bearing / suspension up ) although dealer tried it and thought right side wheel bearing!
I was misled asthe car manual says there will be noise from the front diff when turning... but hadto tuen radio up from 20 to 30+ to hear it when doing 50 mph!!!

Service manager also said the car had a recall on it for possible piston damage due to map problems.... although he was sure the 330S was already fixed as it had the PPP map when it was changed to become a 330S ....

We'll see tomorrow!

But did you get sorted?

I also have a 330S, and I reckon my front passenger wheel bearing is duff.

I have a whining noise and it also appears worse when turning right just like you describe.

Would the wheel bearing also make the car veer to the left slightly or is that just alignment?

I thought one of mine was on its way out, took to dealer and they confirmed it was the road noise from the Dunlops!

Never had this on other cars but there is certainly a strange noise that comes from these tyres, cannot wait to get some new rubber!

Same "diagnosis as Adz"

Bearings were changed, not much better.

Back in to dealer a few months later, they had same initial dianosis but didn't really want to change wheel bearings again.

They put on some 17" Sti wheels and hey presto no noise!


So it "Seems"" to have been / is tyre noise from the dunlops.....

Have to try myself on other tyres / 17" wheels!



Car veering, more likely the alignment unless the bearings are really loose.

Just get a set of decent tyres and your problem will resolved.

I had the same thing with mine, it seems that the Dunlops get noisier the more worn they get. I had both wheel bearings changed under warranty with no joy.

I aquaplaned all the way home from Cumbria one night in heavy rain doing no more than 50 mph so the next day I threw the Dunlops in the bin and replaced them with a new set of Michelin PS3's, Hey presto!! No noise what so ever!

The bonus was that during all the snow we had up here I had no wheelspin what so ever so no need for winter tyres either!
