Keith Michals did the same to me last month, I called and was told I'd get a call back which I had to keep chasing for, eventually when they did they really could not be bothered to help me.

How are the insurance co's with mods these days?

I'm with LV and due next month .. and wonder if they are still OK with mods ( they were fine with the classic but then went off mods .. ) on the new cars.

re K Michaels - had same lack of replies to e-mails and telephone messages, even when asking for the subaru guy moley, and really poor when I had a claim - "go call the underwriters we don't deal with thefts!"

well mine just has prodrive alloys, which are classed as standard, due to being fitted and supplied by dealer, and a H & S cat back, so only a 10% power gain, the brakes are inc aswel. they seemed ok, didnt add that much to the price from what i worked out.

i'm surprised with K Michaels, been with them for 4 years now, 2 accidents, all ok from them, but these days there are separate companies that deal with the actual claims etc now for the insurance companies

Any1 wanting a quote needs to call them and ask to speak to Gary Moulson, say that me (Mark Chamberlain) has put you in touch, he will look after you.

all my mods are always covered, paid off to do this when my hawkeye was written off cos every1 was replaced

The missus and I have been with A-Plan for years , we have 5 cars insured through them between us,and the envelope arrived from A-Plan with the renewal quotes for the STi :

£639.43p with Aviva Gold which was £370 last year , A-Plans best quote was £539 with Royal sun alliance. Too expensive so I used T`internet.

Adrian Flux £443 without getting my 15% Cumbrian Scoobs members discount and haggling.

Compare the market best was Hastings direct @ £387. Admiral is £420 with the comparethemarket.quote.

Next was gocompare.com whos cheapest was Admiral @ £621 for the same cover as with comparethemarket.

All the quotes for protected NCB ,Legal cover , £350 excess and everything declared and myself and Denise as named drivers. Big difference for the same policy with different brokers so it pays to shop around.

Decided upon Adrian Flux as you probably guessed , cracking deal Aviva Platinum policy with all kinds of extras thrown in. Cracking service too. Paid £403.

    car insurance Empty Gulp !!!

Post  vulnax Wed Oct 27, 2010 11:48 am

Spent a lot of the day trying to get through to Liverpool Victoria ( LV=) who I am currently with and used to cover my heavily modded classic. Finally managed 7 pm!

Factory and dealer providing car parts are classed as production line parts
Later dealer parts are post production parts.
Items like parking sensors, Bluetooth are allowable mods.

Other non Subaru parts, or fitted elsewhere become aftermarket parts.

LV= still do the "all inclusive " for e.g. exhaust parts or suspension parts it is all encompassing and futute changes are not likely to affect risk / premium ( just let them know so they will pay out on them if needed! ).
The down side of this is that a small change in say engine parts - air filter / induction kit becomes other engine mods and hikes up the price massively as if engine change or rebore!
Remap is chip change and they do not like that!

So for dealer fit grills, bluetooth, quick shift, rear parking, then post production but dealer fit prodrive springs, and then after market sports cat, induction kit and remap it went from ...

    £681 to £2670 !!!!!!!!!!

Rearranged the parts categories and down to £1700 ish then list better again and down to around £1300. For the same parts but just put in different categories.

Hmmm... They are getting back to me tomorrow when they have looked at the mods / accessories and the efect on costs / performance / nickability!

May have to try A-Plan and Adrian Flux to see if I can get a price like you guys above have for the mods ... Rob - where is yours thru?

    Cheers

Lucky sod Wink thought it might have been some trader policy!

LV came back to me today and confirmed all changes needto be listed, and things like clear fog light mod triggered thebodywork change, quickshift gear lever triggered gearbox changes, Strut brace for suspension mods etc.

So still £1300+ for just strut brace and grill/fog light! Over £2k with air filter and remap.

LV also stated they will no longer cover imports..... seems they are no longer mod friendly ... rep even off the record suggested a niche insurance broker / company...

    Off I go again!

    Don't forget QUIDCO !!!!

Get upto £75 cash back for new policies.

I'm with Aviva, about £380 for the WRX then about £20 for each mod. (The wheels cost more than the performance exhaust system on quotes.)

PLUS I got about £60 cash back via Quidco. Also got the same back for my wife with Hastings Ins.

    Worth a try.

General policy for me, my car, my area, my useage etc around £680 to £800 with a total loss £26k ( Hatch STi stolen thru burgulary / keys taken, may 09 ) BUT as soon as I state air filter induction kit and sports catalytic convertor goes up to £1300 - £1400 ..... add in remap and the "bodywork" mods - clear fog light and the optional STi lip splitterand grills and parking sensors over £2000!

At least some companies are sensible and the options / accessories fitted before collecting the car are included ( grills, quickshift, bluetooth, park sensors etc. )are not a modification / aftermarket .. but these companies seem to be higher starting price, e.g. Admiral at £1400 std to £1855 with air filter/exhaust!

    Sky couldn't give a quote!

    Performance direct over £1200 ..
    LV £1300+
Adrian Flux - didn't complete quote as not competitive / in the ball park ( over £1800 )

Need to go thru A-plan ( Chris ) and back to current insurer and ignore the factory/dealer fit options just the aftermarket bits...
