there's more to it than oil in the intake, I have a couple of my own theorys on this.
tight piston to bore clearances make expansion very limited for the piston, so while the engine is being given a good kicking the piston has expanded as far as the bore will let it so it starts to scuff and cause the breakage of the top ringland.
and the other is down to afr's being to lean when switching to open loop mode
