Anybody else got issues with rust on their car?

Thanks to a nod from Rob, I've found what appears to be rust developing in the seams on the roof, just visible with the tailgate lifted. I know Rob's car has the same so it would be worth your while to check your cars.

    ***Pics now added below.***

I will be going over my whole car with a fine tooth comb this weekend looking for other problem areas, paying particular attention to the seams.

I suspect I'm soon going to be testing the 12 year anti corrosion warranty!

    Cheers,

    Neil

There is a bulletin about this, I'll find out what it is. I'm sure it states about removing the sealer and cleaning the offending area and re-sealing the body shell. but we shouldnt have to pay for it to be done Shocked

Would be good to see that Rob before visiting the dealer.

What's this about us having to pay for it? Shocked I thought there was a 12 year anti-corrosion warranty? Or is that yet another 'not worth the paper it's printed on' thing? Rolling Eyes

they will try everything to get out of it Very Happy

This just gets better and better!

As you know, my car was owned by Subaru UK until well past it's first year service and looking at the service book now, the first year annual body inspection/service wasn't done.

So the chances are that the anti-corrosion warranty on my car has been rendered null and void by the very company that provides the warranty, namely Subaru UK.

There's got to be something wrong there!!!

That aside, rusting seams on a 3 year old car is frankly unacceptable anyway.

what I can do tomorrow is talk to our warranty controller and get him to talk to subaru uk about the matter not naming any names at this point and see were the land lies, I think its the best start to the situation. I'm not happy if mine has to go to the bodyshop as the one they like us to use isnt that grate so I'd rather let my mates body shop do it at least its safe and secure there.

    Superb, many thanks! Very Happy

I'm with you on the bodyshop choice, if it comes to it I'd much rather it be done by somewhere I personally know is top notch.

Just put a wet wipe across mine and dried it off and its just left a tiny hairline split. If it keeps me up at night I'll put some sealant on it Razz

It's a spot for sure that dirt will collect. My advice is just to clean it off and check now and again and seal if it worries you, unless of course the paintwork has been corroded unacceptably. I'll check mine in another 25k!

Got too admit mine is pretty good 20k miles in, arches have a few chips but I put that down to the low offset rims, bumper only has the odd chip and bonnet is perfect, not sure if the silver is a little tougher.

Checked seams under hatch / roof ... OK !

Since main dealer didn't do / offer the body check at 1 year service I'll have to question hard about the anti corrossion warranty... funny they didn't press me to do it as it's another £100 option on the service!!!

£100 quid? Shocked Shocked My two local dealers include it as part of the service & when I rang Heritage in Leicester they only wanted £35 extra

Checked mine last night when I washed it and all seems ok - but will keep an eye on it

The dealer is now £96 / hour labour I think !!! Must be the Porches, Ferrari's and bently turbo's they also are dealer for..

To change plugs for me & compression test £96. ( I provide plugs and HEL lines !! )
To fit HEL braided brake lines ( before they change the brake fluid ) £96
    Body Inspection £96 ( inc vat! )
2 year service £250 - inc vat, oil, filter, brake fluid change.

Letting them do the oter bits as they are doing the warranty seat frame and a couple of corroded wheels, and adjust a couple of things.

Roof seams and drivers door seams are rusting per normal.

+ rusting hinges on boot lid show up especially well in white!

+ couple of seams under boot floor rusting!

    This was a surprise!!! Surprised

    Rust - not good! IMAG0348

Removing the rear bumper to fit a towbar showed up this!

The boot lid rubbers press on the bumper which presses the bumper on the bodywork underneath! This was seriously pitted.
