Sad On way home tonight, heard a little ** Snick** on the windscreen as I braved the joys of the Runcorn Bridge.

By the time I had got to the end of the dual carriage way about 5 miles on I now had a 12" long crack in the windscreen by the o/s pillar about 1/2 way up. Crying or Very sad
MOT failure no doubt! So need to do something with it.

Anyone had to change a windscreen yet due to a crack?
    Were they easily available?
Is the front screen a bit tinted - mines a 330S in the dark grey metallic with the blacked out rear sides windows ... if so what colour would it be? Any colour code?

Insurance want £125 towards a new screen or a free repair ... via Autoglass. Has any one experiance of them on the Hatch?

I think the front screen is bonded in - is it structural - and can it be done in the car park or at home, or best done in their workshop?

    Sorry for all the Q's...

    Thanks

Just ring round. Supplying your reg will allow the various companies to quote you for an exact match. It won't be any type of repair if its 12 inches long. Pretty sure its a bonded screen (can't check anymore) Embarassed If it is i reckon you have got about an hours work and £350 to sort. They will do outside if the weather is good but good practise to do it under cover if poss.

Don't be tempted to keep driving mate until it is sorted Wink

Looks like new screen then Crying or Very sad

Just make sure they don't scratch the pillars when they remove the old one!

My classic has suffered from a botch screen change and has rusted behind the trims where it had been scratched and not re-protected/re-painted before they replaced the windscreen trims.

Yeah Lee, I've seen that on a mates 1998 classic I borrowed when my first hatch got nicked, took out windscreen as cracked and top seal and pillars rusted to death. Not sealed last time the screen changed said the fitters.

Mines getting a new screen Saturday, Autoglass local branch have a choice of 2 they need to cross check with chassis no. something to do with position of rear view mirror! Mines got the wiper park heaters which they pointed out.

I'll wash it before hand toavoid grit scratches, and make sure they do as they say on the website and cover inside and out before removing trim or glass.

    Cheers

PS, dealer price is about £425 and £120 to fit, plus the good old old VAT I guess.
