STI Cosworth

This is Subaru's ultimate incarnation of the road-going Impreza, fettled by Cosworth to produce 395bhp and offer supercar-rivalling acceleration.
The Cosworth Impreza STi CS400 can get from 0-62mph in just 3.7sec, matching a Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 and beating the Ford Focus RS’s time by more than two seconds. Top speed is limited to 155mph.

The standard STi’s 2.5-litre turbo engine gets high-performance pistons, high-strength steel conrods, Cosworth-spec engine bearings, a redesigned head gasket and a high-pressure oil pump. The turbocharger has also been modified, with a new compressor design and wastegate actuator.

A Cosworth-designed exhaust system and a remapped ECU complete the revisions, which also boost torque to 398lb ft.

The chassis is a joint effort between Cosworth, Bilstein and Eibach. The Impreza gets new coil springs and its ride height is 10mm lower. The front brakes are larger
(355mm) AP Racing discs.
Styling tweaks include a new front bumper , foglights, mesh grilles and rear spoiler, and new 18in alloy wheels that help to widen the tracks by 12mm.

Inside, there’s a piano black centre console, privacy glass and new Recaro front seats.

Just 75 examples of the car will be made, all in right-hand drive and purely for the UK market. It’s available in just three colours: silver, dark grey and red.

The car will also be comfortably the most expensive road-going Impreza yet, at £49,995.

I read some where that the prices would be launched in march. But Cosworths involvement in F1 has set things back untill April. Evo mag claim price around £45K . Having grown up in the Ford Cosworth era has left me with a real soft spot for the marque. I hope the above price is an over estimate, with the car being able to live up to the hype. You never know i might even be able to afford one this time round

As its been said on SN, no chance would I spend 50k on that, and the warranty has to be a typo.

There are much better cars out there for 50k.

It does look good. You could argue that the price/performance goes directly up against the Evo fq400
in which case fair enough. Still £50k is far more than i would be able to justify on a japanese car, that wasnt a GTR. Still want one though.

Whilst in Stan Palmers yesterday Captain and myself had another good chat with Mike Griffiths , dealer principle , and it seems Cosworth will be taking over from Prodrive as the tuning partner for Subaru and IM as from 2011 when Prodrive will be running WRC teams for Mini and VW with various new packs and offerings to be announced . There are 40ish STi hatch`s (mainly in silver)and 180 WRX`s left for sale in the UK and then the 2011 STi`s and WRX`s in the UK will all be the new saloon version as announced by Subaru Global :

Somewhere in the high 40`s of Cosworth STi`s have been ordered up to now

Monk's Heath up in Macclesfield, have sold 2 so far.

Pretty unimpressed with the CS400 overall.

The spec and the thinking behind the car should in theory take Subaru to a new level, the simple fact though is it doesn't excel in any area.The marketing and P.R side have been a disaster with Subaru promoting the car well before it was properly tested and ready for it's new customers

And finally £50k

There are many reasons why Subaru need to have a good hard look in the mirror at the moment IMHO.

We were hoping to have the first one in the uk to be unvailed at the NBO 8 12 weeks ago and it wasn't quite ready and apart from the autocar road test a couple of weeks ago nothing has been seen or heard from the cosworth stable

Do you really think Subaru UK care, they have sold all 75 £50k Cosworth models, so as far as they are concerned, job done, closed book!!!



How did the R205 drive go Sunday?

The answer to that is no, i think they are now a company that is incredibly short sighted and have lost the plot

As for the 75 buyers, if i were one then i would be having a little word with my dealer for a refund.

My visit on Sunday had to be postponed but I will be back soon with my report
