Only problem is that when showing the Camp2 monitoring, I have now got a 1cm tall white flashing (in sync with engine revs) strip along the bottom of the screen and the normal view is squashed up (by 1cm) so the circular gauges now look slightly eliptical Sad
Everything else on the head unit works fine.

sounds like the alternator could need a supressor fitted to it, but To be honest I'm not sure how these fit on the smart alternators Embarassed the supressor would eliminate elctrical noise which is interfearing with the Camp2

    Thanks again Rob. Very Happy

No problem chaps Smile Good to help out fellow hatch owners Wink

I've edited the walk through to hopefully make more sense as to what should happen to the other end of the grey wire. Could someone have a read through and see if it really is full proof??

It could be re-posted in the first post or put by itself and made a sticky rather than being hidden on page 3.

As for legality, I'm not sure. I doubt it is so I wouldn't show it off to the coppers but I wont be worrying too much either. I've heard people saying it could void your insurance but I figure its easy to put back to standard if I crash it....... along with my panel filter Embarassed

    Rob/Ben
Did you check the voltage on the end of the wire from the handbrake to see if it was 0V with the handbrake off ?

Clutching at straws here with limited knowledge, but wondered why earthing the feed wire to the head unit caused the 1cm high white bar on screen, when before the mod if I pulled the handbrake up slightly the display was perfect when moving.
    confused

Tried earthing the A4 wire direct to battery. No change, so connected earth back to spade on side of unit.
Tested with DVD - perfect, also all other Std functions on head unit.
Camp2 still has bottom 1cm strip Sad

It cant possibly have a voltage, otherwise you'd end up with a short circuit as the handbrake is connected to earth.

for some reason your getting an interferance but i'm struggling here to work out why as ben's works fine with the same mod Embarassed

    Hi Rob,
Thanks for clearing up the 0V bit - like I said, I am grasping at straws !! Sad

Does Ben have a Camp2 monitor ? Or do you mean the DVD (playing DVD's) works OK. My DVD works perfectly - just the Camp2 has the white bar at the bottom. The Camp2 is connected via the connectors in the centre storage consol between the front seats (in front of the rear seats !) if that makes any difference to anything.

Stan, Have you tried some other device in the inputs - Ipod etc. to see if it's the Jap kit or the car wiring that is the issue?

No - only the Camp2, DVD and the std head inputs - satnav, radio, DVD, subaru gauges.

Don't have i-pod, still burn cds!! Embarassed lol!

Its wierd that before the wiring mod the Camp2 monitor worked OK when moving, if the handbrake was pulled up slightly. No white bar at the bottom of the screen.
Since the mod, everything on the head unit (DVD, satnav, radio etc) works 100% when moving except the Camp2 monitor now shows the white bar at the bottom of the screen.

I wonder if it is a suppression issue somehow, as the strip flickers in sync with the revs ? I reckon that is the next thing to try.

Thanks again for your thoughts/suggestions etc Smile

I'm thinking now, perhaps the Camp2 unit was using the handbrake cable for an earth supply ( perhaps at the head unit end ? ), and would be fine if a new earth was wired to it? Somewhere.
You'd need to check the instructions or the installer to check.

    Hey Stan

My DVD, radio and "info" screen still all work fine like yours. I don't have the Camp2 unit to play with.

I've tried to get my iphone video to display on the video screen via the AV inputs but have been unsuccessful so far. I'll have another go to see if I get any interference on the screen.

From what you've said about the white line changing with RPM it sounds like an RF interference. I wonder if the handbrake switch has a suppressing capacitor in it to eliminate any chance of this when the circuit to earth is made? Like you would use on a DC electric motor across the terminals. By cutting the wire at the plug this will obviously be bypassed.
That's the only thing I could think of.

Had a quick look for a 12v capacitor which may be of use?

    here's a link

    Cheers

    Thanks Ben.
Great getting so much support from so many fellow Hatchers Very Happy

I am going to an ICE specialist Wed and will pass on these suggestions and let you know what happens. As the Camp is the only thing with this problem it seems likely that maybe the Camp needs a supressor.
    Thanks again !

How to allow DVD input when car is moving ?? - Page 3 Empty Re: How to allow DVD input when car is moving ??

Post  vulnax Mon Aug 30, 2010 1:07 pm

Now it's my turn for a "blonde" moment.

With the above sorting of Stan S's CAMP2 unit, and the video while moving fix ... I wanted to use my Ipod to show the Rev2 display on the OEM nav head unit. I tried connecting it from the arm rest A/V sockets - the cable plugged into the top hole in Ipod ( with a 3 banded plug audo left, right, video ) but on VIDEO setting on headunit I only got the info screen with Rev, or stereo soundtrack off a video.

So I still need hints how to connect the ipod to the head unit and get the video output!!! So I can see the virtual gauges!

The rear of the head unit connection for the reverse cameras has been mentioned before, but why doesn't the A?V in the arm rest work?

(note i have not yet done the moving video fix ).

PS I noticed Ben / Mobius 1 had similar problem with ipod to head unit earlier in this post.

    Over to Rob, probably!!!

Bit more research, might not be a car input problem, looks like different leads for different firmware / OS's on the Ipod touch, Iphone etc.

Also these other leads seem to use the dock connector, and include an USB cable to charge too... useful.

Unless anyone can tell me otherwise I'll get one of these dock connector A/V output leads and try them with the arm rest a/v car inputs.

    Cheers

As you say, the later ipods/iphone do not use the old style 3.5mm/3 RCA video out lead. I have one of these from when i had an old 60gb Video ipod but it only outputs sound from my iphone. You need to go via the dock connector and all should be well.

I have the dock connector AV lead and it still don't work but I haven't played with any setting that much. The sure fire way to test it would be connect a DVD player or something to the AV port in the arm rest and see if that displays the picture. I think it will be an ipod/phone lead problem. But then I also recall something about getting a TV display being some kind of hassle. I'm not sure if it needs "jail breaking".

Here is the cable I have

I think Ben may be right.

I tried to watch United vs City by linking the wifes i phone to the Nav (bought the leads). Could not get the picture to display, just got sound. When i had a look around some other forum it suggested that Apple block certain transfers, so a jailbreak may be the answer.

Easy way to check if its the lead or the Nav display, connect the ipod to your TV and see if you get no picture (presuming your TV/AMP etc have a 3 rca input).

I had the same with cheap leads, bought the apple one and full video.... not saying that's the solution so don't go out and spend the money on my recommendation Wink . This worked for me with the OEM BMW M3 navigation screen tho.

PS anybody ever seen the OEM nav for sale... wouldn't mind having one in the car.
