Forge dump valve is a bit of a problem - needs the OEM alloy recirc return pipe off the OEM dump valve.
Tough to remove - loctited in, and the philips heads get damaged easily!

Hopefully Revolution will get it sorted.
Downpipe and exhaust pipe getting fitted at Revolution soon, hopefully with the forge dump valve, and if time allows the under car braces too.

On the way to get mapped up in Edinburgh...

    Hi Rob,

Got the strut brace and the under car braces from Japan, from a couple of places. One got tac & import duty the other didn't.
One place was Nengun, the other JapanParts I think.

Each was about £250 a piece!!!!!!!!!!!

    Not cheap.

I believe RCM were / are importing them, albeit a bit more expensive ( £75 more and a bit for exchange rates apparently ).

Strut brace will be a peice of cake to fit, 3x13mm (IIRC) nuts on each tower, drop it on and then pop the nuts back on, job done, 15 minutes from start to finish.

Cheers Mark! Function over form for me!!

As Abz says, quick and easy job to fit the strut brace. Even though there are adjustments at each end it didn't need any movement to fit it. Maybe needsto be stressed when fitted?

There is a rose joint ( pillow ball /socket type joint ) in the middle, meant to allow comfort at town speeds and still stiffen up across the car when pressing on!

There is also a non ball joint version for a few pounds less, not sure if S205 part or just Japan STi part.

PS - the recaros are available from Japan I seem to remember, can't remember but either £200 or £400 each, but I guess the shipping ( and tax ) would be large.

330S bits and bobs so far... Empty sorted 330S ...

Post  vulnax Fri Oct 08, 2010 12:41 pm

Anyway, long day yesterday from home to Gateshead ( Revolution ) and onto that nice Mr. Andy F. ( Nr Edinburgh ).
Covered over 600 miles / 2 tanks petrol in the day! 5 am start, home by 11 pm !!! no lunch or dinner either due to timing.. doh!

Revolution were great, fitted the H&S sports cat 3" downpipe and 3" to 2.5" exhaust pipe and all mated to the OEM PPP / 330S std back box.
Also fitted the S205 crossmember braces front and rear, although a slight hicup was that the undertray would no longer fit back on! Damn these JDM vs Euro changes!!!
And fitted the Forge dump valve ( recirc ) I bought off their demo car ... as I couldn't get the return pipe off the OEM one myself! ( shame! )

A couple of hours with Andy got the S# std map onto the S setting, and a higher boosting / sharper response map set on S#.

    Power runs gave ....

330S bits and bobs so far... AndyFremapgraph

    average ...

    370 bhp
    396 lb ft.

Comments included : It's breathing well, probably due to the sports cat and AEM CAIK
The Injectors are at 93% duty ... that means good air flow needing that much fuel, on std fuel pump. ( usually high 80%'s duty on uprated fuel pump ).

How does it feel / drive?

Much sharper, faster on accelleration, faster through gears.

If I remember times for 30-50, 50-70 were about 0.4 second quicker each from around 2.1, 2.2 down to 1.8, 1.9...

The old S# was around the std figures, 335 bhp, 326 lb ft, so not at all far out.

Was you car a 330S originally or PPP'd?

Have you uprated anything engine wise prior to Andys remap?

Did Andy say anything about the 2.5" being restrictive in any way? Thinking of maybe swapping my Magnaflow for a PPP (little quieter) and interested what you think of it and Andy's comments if he said anything.

Hi Guys, not been here for a couple of days.

    Answers :
Car is a 330S so had the Prodrive ECU and decat pipe and rear exhaust parts.
The only engine changes were external, i.e. fiting the AEM cold air induction kit, the open mouth 3" H&S sports cat exhaust mated to the std 2.5" PPP rear box, ohhh and the zero sports TMIC air splitter, and a forge recirc dump valve.

Doubt the forge dv does much for the power. TMIC splitter may aid charge cooling hence less chance of det / more power?

Andy F said the car breathed very well, the AEM induction works very well, and the 3" sports cat seemed no problem. ( Previously it was said a sports cat may lose 2 BHP against a full decat, hence why I went for sports cat ! ). Fuel injectors were 93% duty, which again indicates good inlet air flow ( although would need better fuel pump and / or injectors for more power hikes! ).
There was no obvious back pressure or flow restriction due to the rear half of the exhaust being only 2.5", ( I expect the gains are opening the turbo exit with the wide mouth and initial wide pipe bore ) and no limiting power or torque due to exhaust flow limits.
And still quiet, only slightly more exhaust roar ... dugga dugga, although a bit more induction suck / hiss from the CAIK.

Full decats on similar std motors seem to get up to 380 bhp ( not sure on torque ) and my sports cat / hybrid exhaust made 370 with more to go ( mapped safe to allow for the odd dodgy fuel of lower octane ) and Andy reckoned an easy 10+ BHP / lb ft if mapped nearer to the limit.

So in summary, I'm happy, the car is way more sprightly and pulls far better from 3000 rpm, before it was stodgy unles caught just right on the boost / torque curve. Boost profile altered in the mapping, but not as aggresive as could be achieved, and little increase in peak boost overwhat I saw on Rev2 as standard!

I'd recommend / do this again, only down side is the cost of a sports cat which is 3 x the cost of a decat d/pipe!!!

    V

Kris, will do when we meet up!
