does this look normal under my car?

whilst fitting new side light SMD bulbs (see other thread for details), I noticed the trim looking a bit loose. One side isn't held on by anything (passenger) the other side (drives) looks secure, but both sides look weird to me.

Is it normal to have them looking 'attacked'?








do I need to worry?

That doesn't look normal to me mate, someone has cut part of the under shielding from the car, but for what reason I'm not sure

I'll blame that Stan Palmers, whenthey fitted the splitter originally lol


should I get another one?

same thing happened to mine mate

the inner arch split right thru, during the investigation i find that a massve load had been cut away, could see the neat cut thru, its obvious some1 had cut it away to get access to the tow eye!!!

i know for sure that it was the dealers that had the engine repair because the AA had to use he rear tow eye to pull it onto the low loader!!!

did you buy another then?

Probably to fit / remove the mods!!! ;-)

Might have been done to fit the spot lights by a lazy cnut instead of taking off the bumper!

Dont need to remove the bumper to fit fogs simply unclip the splash guard and gently pull down Once done reclip into place

Now that's a perfect example of why i am not a mechanic

i did order a new one but subaru sent me the wrong one, only found this out after i had removed the old one!!!

the STI one is different as it has the 'mudflap thingy' that sits on this part underneath




so fixed the old back as best as i could

Is it the whole wheel arch plastic as well the, looks like yours was cut in the wheel arch, mine is cut/attacked under th efront end.

were they expensive?

Ours had been cut by a certain Main Dealers to fit the Fogs !!!
We got ours replaced under warranty or by the dealer invoicing the sales dept @ the garage
I would go back to the dealer !

i cant prove it was them or I would have phoned and gone ballistic at them!!!

and I'm sure they wouldnt go admitting it was them so I doubt I would have got far and just worked up for no reason!!!

yes salsa that is the wheel arch and then follows round to th efront bumper under neath.

been over to Subaru Nottm this morning, apparently is the whole wheel arch costa about £35+vat

So I'll be looking at £100

well it's happen.. I knew it would!!


Drove from Nottm to Tamworth this afternoon... 2mins before I get to my destination (on a B road.. also a bit windy, not going fast though) I hear a terrible loud scrapping sound from under the car. Pulls up and lokks at the front of the car thining the bumper or splitter would be hanging off.. but no, nothing. Looks under th ecar to find that the DRIVER SIDE wheels arch.. ripped back, hence rubbing on the floor and against the tyre.... wearing away the plastic wheel arch trim. you can tell I'm not pleased!!


on the way back, carefully drove to Tamworth retail park and bought a pack of tie wraps, used a scre driver to makes some holes in the wheel arch trim so I could tie wrap it up and secure it for the drive home.


Looks like I'll check it tomorrow, add more tie wraps.. then get new wheels arches fitted when it goes in for it's nexted service.



whoever cut the wheel arches to fit fog lights wants sacking!!! or failing that pay £100 to me to get tehm fixed! (as they are £36+vat each.. plus fitted)

Dealer cut ours also !!

Some of the mechanics they employ should not be let near cars

They could not give a shit how much we pay for our cars etc just as long as they get there money for doing as little as possible !
Ours were replaced by dealer wether they claimed them as warranty or back off service dept i do not know !!
