Cleaning engine bay Empty Cleaning engine bay

Post  vulnax Sun Apr 24, 2011 2:15 am

What is good for cleaning the engine bay without harming the red manifold paint or getting into the electrical bits?

I still have the yellow grease stuff from new that is sticky and has attracted loads of dirt.

I have tried some cleaner to little effect and even Autosol which worked a bit.

    Cheers

Recently done mine with gunk & a stiff brush, come up a treat and didn't damage the red paint. Would recommend placing some cling film over the alternator then hosing off.

Best results with a warm engine ( don't do it hot)

After hosed off dry up what youcan with old microfibre cloth then use wd40 on everything and start the engine and let warm up.

Finally dress the black plastics in trim sealant, I used autoglymn bumper stuff.

    Cheers DrJim.

Used gunk in the past before so much electrical stuff under the bonnet!

I'll get some and give it a go, fed up with toothbrush or cloth and autosol, or P21S general cleaner!!!

60amps is no way near enough for all the electronics on the hatch, the STD unit is 110amps canbus controlled unit

Ohh right, is it the canbus interface that means it costs loads?

It was advertised in Banzai and Jap performance but of course they cover other cars too...

    Local auto elecs fettle it?

Canbus means that the ECU looks after it, switches it on and off and sets what charge rate it needs from it. and it must have a hell of an output to keep the car running as without it, it flattened my battery in 15 miles of getting it to work Embarassed

Tried the local Electrical factors and basically took one look at it and said " Step Charging system??" I replied yes it is he said throw it away its unique to the subaru sti & can only get brushes as a repair kit for it nothing else. cant even test the thing either Crying or Very sad
