    Any history of WRX's with a whine type noise.
    Road Speed related rather than engine revs, so not the turbo.

    Hard to tell if it's the gearbox or the rear diff??

    It's not loud, yet, but anything like that bugs me and I think it will only get louder.

    I had a strange noise that I thought was a wheel bearing as it was speed related, Garage test drove it and said it was fine, turned out to be those dam Dunlops, tyres changed and no more noise, try swapping front to rear to see if it makes any difference.

    Thanks Abz, they are just cheap tyres that came with the wheels (all 4 the same make) but it's not like road noise as such.
    It's worth considering though.
    Think I'll change all the oils at the weekend and see if that helps.

    don't you get a bit of transmistion whine anyway with the 4wd?

    I hear smething on mine that sounds like a whine, but put it down to the performance of the cr and 4wd.

    Never really noticed on my previous Scoobies but then again they were saloons so maybe a bit more soundproofing?

    I've changed the Diff oil and it is quieter now, but I can still hear it. Then again I'm very picky!
