    Post  wrxtony57 Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:41 am

Hi, Can someone post a pic of the Impreza Sat Nav unit please.

On an impulse I bought this..

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190497117820&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_3013wt_1139

Thought it was the real Subaru one! But no Subaru stickers on it anywhere.
    I think I did a bad! I can't believe it!

    D'oh!!

That looks nothing like the OEM screen / nav / audio unit.

Go check the earlier posts about wiring an ipod to the OEM nav unit for pics..

    Yeah, I can't believe it.
3 different sellers (London and Manchester locations) were selling the same style all advertising as Subaru units.

    thanks

Suppose you can fit it, might be quite good!

    Or ebay it on perhaps..?

The OEM unit is stupid money at the dealers, was near £2500 with the needed bits as an option!
Glad I got it "free" in the 330S ... Wink works pretty well actually as sat nav and sounds / features OK.

Thanks Rob, so they are an OE unit then?

I've just fitted it and it needed a few adjustments to the bracket but it looks ok.
The Sat Nav doesn't do postcodes but is clever the way it uses predictive text for the addresses.

DVD and Bluetooth work so I suppose for the money I can't complain too much.

Does this interface with the steering wheel controls?

Is it plug n play without any cutting or splicing wires?

Yes they are an OE Unit, they have just started to filter through the dealer network as we speak, we've had one up to press and an odd looking version with a reverse camera in it.

Fits well in your car tony, That unit I think is made by clarion but not badged as so though

I guess it's not as "pretty" as the 330s unit as it sits behind a cover panel on the Forester, am liking it though.

Well, I'm actually ok with this purchase now.

Bluetooth works great with my HTC phone.
Sat Nav is quick and clear. Maps seem up to date too. It comes with a GPS antenna which is magnetic and handily attracts/attaches to a metal bracket just above were the unit sits.

It's does backlight red in colour too which matches the rest.

As for steering wheel controls, it does say it is compatable with them but mine aren't working. Not sure if it needs another plug somewhere as the small connector in the back doesn't have all the wires connected up. I may email the seller for some more advice on that one.
The Wheel set up screen is showing nothing connected.

And no cutting or splicing of wires either. Although I have put the brown handbrake wire to earth already.

TV works ok with an old aerial I had from a previous unit.
It has an Ipod connection too but I haven't got one to try. EDIT : Just tried a friends I-phone and it worked great.
Both leads I've routed into the glove box, along with some spare AV leads I've plugged into the back for AV input and output and one for a Camera if I decide to use them.

For less than £300 and a subaru OE item it's not bad.

The only thing I'm dissapointed about is the radio screen where only numbers are displayed, I like the station names better.

OH ! and one other gripe. Actually it is a very good safety feature, BUT once you are moving you can't do anything with the sat nav! It just pops up a window saying " Drive safely - Ok"
Even a passenger couldn't alter the route or adjust settings etc...
Anyone know how to get around that???

EDIT : Found it! Safety Mode was turned ON in the GPS settings.

Got the Sat Nav working properly now just use the Postcode when it asks for the city name.

A few U-tube videos of it in action..
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDmV7jor1-0
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNvc5ZGwadM&feature=related

    SUCCESS!!!!

Whilst playing around with the settings I accidentally found out how to set up the wheel controls. They are not assigned by default.
It seems you have to assign each button to a control button on the DVD unit by holding the steering wheel button down and then (whilst keeping the button held down) touch a corrosponding button on the unit screen. Do that for all the butons and then SAVE it.

So everything works now (apart from RDS station names)
    Well pleased!

Very tempted with one of these but 2 questions if that os ok:

1, does the volume button push in at all to give it more of a flush fit?

2, how does it look in the dash, the std unit is that silvery colour so sort of blends in, this being black does it look non standard or after market at all, looks ok in your pics but sometimes you can only really tell in the flesh.

Only thing I'm not that keen on is the SD card slots, looks a little cheap, guess I could paint the blue card black, assum it comes with upto date maps?

    Cheers

Unfortunately the push buttons don't push in flat.
The blue card I have now changed to a black SD card - I thought the same, looks bad blue.

The unit doesn't look like a proper Subaru one really, but it is.
Colour wise it's ok too. The 2 Sd card slots do not help the appearance but for the money I can't complain.

I have Sat Nav (iGO 2009, includes trip computer etc... too), DVD, TV, Bluetooth for my phone, Ipod connectivity, USB connectivity AUX in/out for later (reversing Cam) and all work from the steering wheel.

Thanks for that, I don't really need one at all, its just my satnav software needs updating and its about £80 so thought perhaps I should just get one of these instead!

That and I cannot resist a gadget, will post up if I get one.

How are you finding the radio now you've been using it a few weeks, any niggles, anything it does really well, how is the satnav adn blutooth?

Also does it come with the ipod cable, if so where do you route it to connect ipod up and can you control from the head unit?

The radio is OK, nothing fancy and I do miss the radio station NAME displayed rather than the frequency.

SAT NAV is very good, lots of options!

Bluetooth works, but it gets in the way a bit when using sat nav. Only happened once though. The bluetooth icon remains red even when it is succesfully paired which is a bit off putting as I'm tempted to keep switching to the bluetooth screen to make sure it's all ok.
And after one phone call, I had to disconnect then reconnect it to get it working again.
So Bluetooth - although it works ok, not it's strongest option.

It comes with the i-pod cable which I have routed into the glovebox. It does work playing music on a friends I-phone but as I don't have "I" stuff I haven't used it since then. I'm Android all the way!

I can't get a good TV picture but that could be me using an old aerial from a unit I bought a few years back - A chinese one that lasted about 6 weeks!

Overall, I think it's good money well spent.
