i think i'm getting a grinding on hard braking from the front, and looks like the pads are real low, i've only done 8k miles, does this seem right?

Re: front brake pads
must be something seriously wrong if youve only got that many miles from them, mine are still going only just after 30k. Allthough i strip mine out every 3000 miles and clean them up because they are prone to sticking quite badly

Re: front brake pads
Replaced mine at 14K with Performance friction pads and still had half the original pads left. I did hear that standard pads have been known to breaking up and mine did show some signs of fine cracks on the pad surface.
I got my PF pads from Godspeed, good from cold and get better the more you push on. He does sell a Kevlar pad which are better than standard for a mild upgrade.
Think I'll follow Rob's advice and clean them every couple of months as I did notice that the inside rear pads moved back and forward OK but would not come out and the calipers had to be removed to shift them.

Re: front brake pads
I have spoken to a friend of mine who took his Hatch in for it's second service at 14K. Front discs and pads need replacing and rear discs need to be skimmed and new pads.

Re: front brake pads
At 6500 miles, and I have found that the front wheels get really dirty with brake dust, weekend to weekend... and I do a lot of dual cariageway driving with a bit of country lane stuff ( 65:35 ratio I guess ) so not really hard on the brakes.
So with brake dusty wheels I assume high brake pad wear.
Bit worrying if discs / pads need replacing at only 14000 miles.
