Went to fill up with V power and took these after a quick wash (car, that is).

500 mile oil/filter change done using Alan's mineral oil. 1000 mile chnge to use semi synth, then fully synth at 1500 ready for final map
Now ventured to 4-5krpm at third to half throttle. You can feel the boost come in at 4-4.5k revs !

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
My 2 litre used to need to be revving at 4k if you wanted immediate response.
Only using fairly light throttle (up to half) still. Its only got a running in map, so no fine tuning yet. Pulls nicely below 4k but noticeable increase from 4ish. Would have thought the push in the back would come in a bit lower in a 2.5 - Tim Hardisty's hit 1.7 bar at about 3.5krpm IIRC. Will wait to see what the final map produces. No idea of current boost until HKS Camp2 fitted.
Should be ready for the 1000 mile oil change over the weekend

Go for it Stan, I was only teasing!
Keep us informed how it goes, sounds a nice beast.

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
I hope that the final map will produce results similar to Tim's, so boost does seem to come in higher than I expected. So I agree with your comment !
Time will tell !

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
On the 2 litres, turbo's were slagged off if they only spooled up by 4500 rpm. Maybe made 500+ bhp but hardly driveable.
my old TD05-20G on 2l had 1 bar by 3000 and full 24 psi by 3600 rpm and made 381 bhp, even that was scary quick!
Enjoy the car, ignore the pub numbers it's how it drives that counts.

About to hit the 1000 miles tomorrow so out with the 2nd lot of mineral oil and in with semi-synthetic for the next 500 miles. Looking forward to the final change to fully synthetic and the final map at 1500.

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
So back home again after an enjoyable few days in Devon.
A most productive visit to Alan and his team - thanks for such a concentrated effort
HKS Camp2 monitor system was installed and worked well when stationary, but reverted to map when moving (only found out on the test drive after mapping late Fri, by which time it was too late to sort). Rob has told me how to over-ride the hand brake feed to the unit (thanks ) so may well attempt that shortly
A few small problems were quickly sorted, powder coating of FMIC and air intake pipes was done, and Martyn spent a LOT of time mapping on the std ecu which doesn't like more than 1.2 bar boost or trying to extend the rev limit beyond 7k - it just cuts out
So running a flat 1.2 bar, it achieved a max of 438BHP/424ft-lbs. As Martyn improved the map by extending the peaks and moving the graphs to the left (so any specific power/ torque arrives at lower revs) the peaks dropped to 429BHP/419ft-lbs due to more heat being produced earlier, if I understood correctly ! So it is encouraging optimism that it may well meet a 480 target at 1.6-1.7 bar.
Now waiting for the Racerom to be released so "we" can finish the job.
Its nice to be able to push the accelerator beyond third to half way down, and its showing signs of performance especially 50+++ - much improved, even loaded with luggage.
Not tried any dashes from low speed as we were loaded, so looking forward to trying it when empty
Ready to rumble !

Good power figures there from 1.2 Bar
Where did you get your JDM grille shroud

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Hi Paul,
Thanks - looking forward to seeing what it will do with 1.6-7 bar
Iain Litchfield supplied everything except engine stuff.
Worth giving him a ring to see if he has any in stock/prices etc
Cheers,
Stan

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Stan
Why does the ECU not like over 1.2 bar boost pressure?? Is it a problem with MAP sensor or similar???
I ask as when I ran Rev2 s-ware off the ODB2 port it gave me a 19 - 22 PSI boost level on full throttle, which is what in bar, 1.4 ??
Peeps here and on Snet said I was looking at a blowup but been back into dealer who said all std and fine!!!
330S here, no eng or exh mods
bar K& N panel filter and cool aid 2 tmic air splitter

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
No idea why there is a boost issue at >1.2 bar - it needs Martyn to explain !!
I know UK cars boost to 20-ish psi so its strange. I know Martyn was chatting to Ecutec to work it out and they were also puzzled.

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Mine boost's to 22PSI but as you say it does pull back to 20PSI, I put it down to the ambient outside temp and my intercooler not being eficient enough on higher boost

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Cheers Tone.
Update:
Did the Rob/Vulnax handbrake fix for the DVD screen and it now works when moving, but with a 1cm high white flickering (in sync with engine revs) bar across the bottom of the screen showing the bottom 1cm of the display.
Am looking into it, but any suggestions as to why this has happened welcome

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Mainly Rob's, with Mobius's excellent pictorial walk through!
I'd suggest it is the Jap equipment, they do funny things on english cars!
Or think of it as a free rev counter!
It does sound to me like the Camp2 is picking up a feed from the engine revs and displaying it ... you had it professionally fitted I believe so no chance of wrong wiring or touching wires?
May just need a resistor or similar to filter the signal?
A good auto electrician should be able to point out the way - Any on here ?

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Thanks for your input and suggestions Vulnax. It was professionally fitted so I am sure everything is as it should be.
Ben also thinks that as the Camp is the only input with a problem, it may need a suppressor to eliminate any RF getting to it.
I'm going to an ICE specialist Wed so will pass on these suggestions and let you know what happens

Re: The engine build begins at last ....
Got to the ICE dealer and discussed the symptoms/problems (before handing him the keys etc). He said he'd try a few things so I asked what he had in mind (as I wanted a rough idea what was going to happen) and he thought he'd change the head unit to see if that would work and a few other thing (?!?!) not specified. During the chat he mentioned NTSC/PAL format, which reminded me there is a choice on the head unit. So I nipped outside and changed the DVD format to PAL and it works all perfectly !!
He still wanted an hour's labour + VAT for his expertise and booking in time (although he wasn't ready to start yet !) - I suggested a suitable "drink" as the car hadn't even entered his workshop, or was even ready to start work on it. He rejected the drink and was not happy. After brief negotiation ended up at 30 mins (£28)! Bit more than I thought reasonable, especially as I'd given him several hundred pounds worth of previous business.
At least its fixed !
Checked the HKS instructions - no mention of it needing PAL format.

Glad its all sorted Stan At least it was an easy fix and not too expensive in the grand scheme of things.
